Poultry
Minutes of the meeting on the 5th of September,1927 stated that Messrs W.H Dean, C. Albrey & A Faddy were stewards of the Poultry section. The written record of the 1958 show schedule also includes poultry. The Chief Steward was W A York. Junior stewards were D & M Barwick, A & P Bielefield. Even in 1958 quarantines were in place, as poultry exhibits would only be accepted from within the Tamworth District PP Board area. Exhibits would come by rail, with the stewards picking them up from the train station on the first day of the show. The stewards then fed the birds grain and watered them morning and evening during the show and then returned the birds back to their owners on the rail after the show. Pigeons were a regular item in the poultry program.
Entry fees were 1/-. Entry fee in 2009 was $1.00 for adults and 50 cents for juniors.
The last poultry exhibit was held in 1978 with R & B Firman as stewards. The poultry boxes were then used as the wool and goat fleece pavilion.
In 2003 the poultry section was reintroduced following the purchase of cage fronts for the boxes under the guidance of President T Crowley and stewards W Rumsby, D Muir and C Pascoe. In 2010 there were over 70 poultry entries and the wool was moved to the pavilion adjoining the bar area, to allow for the increased number of poultry exhibits. Now all poultry are cared for by their owners and pigeons are not currently included in the schedule.
