FROM THE BARRAB SHOW ARCHIVE: Barraba Show 2013
Letter from Show President, Tim Crowley
On behalf of the Barraba Show Society I would like to thank everyone who helped in preparation for our 2013 show. This year, the weather was just not in the shows favour but the rain was welcomed on all accounts. Unfortunately we had to cancel the horse events, woodchop and rodeos due to the rain but Saturday still saw the cattle, poultry, British breed sheep, junior showgirl judging, sideshows, Rodney the Clown and pavilions open. The ever popular dog & pet show was also held on Sunday afternoon, with a good crowd in attendance to witness the judging.
A big thank you to the volunteer ground staff who had the showground looking so neat and tidy. To our secretary Jayne Miller, thank you for your effort throughout the year. Jayne is retiring from the secretaries’ position due to relocating to the Inverell area and we wish you and your family all the best for the future. To our assistant secretary Val McCusker, who has held this position for 30 years, many thanks for your dedicated service to the show society also. Val is also retiring but I am sure she will be around to help when advice is needed in the future. To Jenny Simpson, our treasurer once again many thanks, we would be lost without you & your knowledge of all things financial.
To Steve Crowley, who last year retired as the cattle chief steward, thank you to you and your family for your many years of hard work in keeping the cattle section a successful and ongoing part of our show. To Adrian Spencer, we welcome you as the new chief steward & I am sure you will ably carry on were Steve has left off. This year saw us host a white face feature show with over 40 entries received in this section, with the grand champion being a Tycolah cow.
Congratulations to our 3 showgirls. Pip Hodgson, Tessa Simpson & Rheni Austin. Pip was judged as our winner for 2012 and we hope that all girls enjoyed and learnt from this experience. Patti & I along with Pip’s family and friends attended the zone judging in Moree were Pip was a wonderful ambassador for Barraba and our show. Barraba Show Society will be hosting the Zone 4 showgirl final judging in 2014. Click here for information other events, which will be a big even for our show and the town. The junior showgirl competition attracted 20 entrants on Saturday. Congratulations to all these girls for their enthusiasm shown in taking part in this competition. Recently we have developed our own Barraba Show website. This website was developed by Jane Harris, who lives in Barraba and has recently developed her own website company called Barraba Websites. We thank Jane for her help in designing our website for the show.
To everyone who supported the show with exhibits and visiting during the weekend, even though it was very wet, we also thank you all very much for your support. The pavilion was a sight to see! Click here for gallery.
